
The San Andreas Police Department (SAPD) is pleased to offer the opportunity for civilians to accompany officers on patrol through our Ride-Along Program. This initiative allows members of the community to gain insight into law enforcement operations and foster positive relationships with our officers.
To participate in the Ride-Along Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have no felony convictions.
- Have no outstanding warrants or active criminal investigations.
- Provide valid government-issued identification.
- Complete and sign a Ride-Along Program Application and Waiver Form.
- Civilians are to observe only and must not interfere with any police activity.
- Firearms are strictly prohibited. If a civilian legally carries a firearm, it must be handed in at the SAPD front desk or to the assigned officer before the ride-along begins.
- Civilians must follow all instructions provided by the officer at all times.
- Appropriate attire is required (no offensive or inappropriate clothing).
- The SAPD reserves the right to terminate a ride-along at any time for safety or operational reasons.
- Civilians must maintain confidentiality regarding any sensitive information witnessed during the ride-along.
- The officer may terminate the ride-along if an emergency or high-risk situation arises.
- Civilians will not be permitted to exit the patrol vehicle unless directed by the officer.
- Any civilian who feels uncomfortable or unsafe may request to end the ride-along at any time.
- Submit a Ride-Along Application on the SAPD website. (application form can be found below)
- Undergo a background check for eligibility verification.
- Upon approval, the applicant is permitted to accompany officers a maximum of three times within the one week the Ride-along is valid, after which the approval expires.
- Attend a mandatory briefing before the ride-along begins and bring a valid form of ID.
